I know the hoo ha is over regarding the horse meat, but has anyone out there ever tried a crocodile steak, an ostrich steak or to crown them all - Karroo oysters (sheep's testicles). All available in South Africa.

None of them patroroberts, but when I lived in Australia some years ago I used to eat sheep's brains on toast.
They look a bit like fish roe.
I wouldn't have thought there are many animals or parts of animals that someone, somewhere in the world hasn't eaten at one time or another.
Trish got some Ostrich tape a few years ago from a farmers market, it was ok a bit like very lean beef. She's never bought the steak again but we often get ostrich burgers again from the farmers market.
^^^^
That off cause should be steak
Hi pat. Yes tried a few at The Carnivore, Nairobi... Never had the Karroo Oysters (thank goodness)
i have eaten kangaroo, and inadvertently horse meat, don't ask...
Ostrich is nice. I tried shark once but never again.
Last time I was in SA, I discovered ostritch burgers. They were much nicer than beef and no horsemeat included.
Lamb testicles (or Rocky Mountain Oysters as they're known here in the western US) are a great delicacy. Harvested in the spring they are breaded and deep fried. Quite rich one can only eat maybe 10 or so. They are about the size of large marbel but elongated. They're soaked in a bucket of salt water for the day. Often served for supper on the day they're taken... I always volunteer to help the sheep ranching neighbors!
they did have ostrich and kangaroo on the shelves for a while during the mad cow scandal - from which we don't seem to have learnt a lot, do we?

No Rocky Mountain Oysters, though.
I've eaten crocodile, and among many other odd things, giraffe, and although I've eaten sheep's brain, I've never tried sheep's testicles. Can't say I'd much fancy it.
