Watching the BBC 6-o'clock news last night you could have been mistaken for thinking that the government was planning to make huge cuts in all welfare payments and everyone will starve and die of the cold, when in actual fact they simply won't be increased as much as inflation over the next three years ie rising by 1%. It was the most blatent piece of scaremongering I have ever seen on the BBC news.

Totally agree New Judge. The inability to behave is not a SEN matter (although I don't know how to tackle it any other way than PRUs). My son has SEN and I was offered a place at a special school for him, including a taxi to the other side of town which I turned down (I didn't even have to make a fuss about it) - hate to think how much it would have cost the LEA. He does have additional support at the village school though. You would be surprised by how many people actively seek SEN support for their children just because their children are badly behaved or are not overly bright but there is a need for SEN support for some children.
Could not agree more, sherrardk.

But huge amounts of cash are being mis-spent on children such as those I describe. There is absolutely no way that more than one in eight children have SENs. It is a scandal, it is a travesty and that is why I mentioned it in my proposed cuts.

I have to agree with scrapping Trident and any other nuclear weapons systems, total waste of money and utterly useless in the modern world. Would save billions £s

We seem to be drifting from the original point here folks. Does anyone agree that the headline news on this subject on the day was over dramatic and over the top scaremongering?
