I am a vivacious life-loving middle-aged woman with a background of 25 years of working as a registered nurse, 10 years as a foster parent, counselling adults also have a qualification equiv. to NVQ3 as teaching adults and have worked most recently as a live-in maternity nanny in London for the last 2 years. I have a great interest in helping women who have been abused or traumatised and think I would like to get a job as a family support worker either in a hospital or similar. What do you think my chances are??

I think your chances are fine, and if you are not successful in a hospital try local government ... just believe in yourself and keep trying and I think you will succeed. Your opening words say it all !!!!!
I think you have a great chance of employment, and with your qualifications and experience it would be a waste not to. Think of all the future people you are going to help. It might help to cast your net wide using all the resources that you can till you come across the 'right' posy for you. Good luck and don't give up.
You sound not only qualified but so enthusiastic I don't see how anyone coud turn you down!!
You have all the possibilities in the world. The fact that you're a registered nurse is a feather in your cap in the field of counselling/support work. I think the worst case scenario, is that you would be employed and made to do a certificate in Counselling or some form of inhouse training......check out your local Sure Start organisation or Rape Crisis Organisation.
