Do You Think It's Right
Do you think it's right that the likes of Dave Lee Travis are taken off the air following his arrest for mistreating (for want of a better expression) a couple of women many years ago? Do you think it's right that BBC Four should not broadcast editions of Top Of The Pops from the 1970s that feature DLT, Jonathan King, Jimmy Savile and Gary Glitter? Does it offend you to see them as they were then? the Telegraph recently reported that Max Clifford had been dropped as a columnist for Surrey Life magazine immediately after his arrest for historic claims. Clifford replied "Whatever happened to 'Innocent until proven guilty'?" Much as I don't like Clifford, I have to agree with that. It remains to be seen whether Jim Davidson will be in the new series of Celeb Big Brother. I hope he is. Do you?

I don't think he will be tarred. There have been so many arrests that its dumbed down peoples opinion. Instead of being shocked the public are now posting threads like this.

Presumably the repeats of TOTP are axed partly to stop the likes of Glitter and King earning royalties, but then the artists appearing in those episodes lose theirs too. I don't mind seeing any of them on TV, and I actually wish I could still hear some of Glitter and King's music on the radio. Leader Of The Gang and Johnny Reggae are classics in my opinion. But hey ho.

The misdemeanors of these minor celebs are hardly "paedophilia" but the public perception, through the press, is that they are one and the same thing, thus distracting attention from the real evil of organised paedophile rings which may well be operating even at all levels of society. There has been little in the press from the Wrexham Bryn Nestyn boys home since Lord McAlpine was named and exonerated, so that seems to have been dusted under the carpet.
Of course this is not "evidence" but we only know what is fed to us through the press, and we know how powerful and manipulative the press can be, and it is public opinion and pressure that force these issues.
I realise that this may smack of "conspiracy", but to me, organised paedophilia is the greatest evil in society, and if anything is preventing it's thorough investigation more children will be left to suffer and that is utterly intolerable.

FredPuli, I imagine it's because in the media you need audience empathy with the people they're watching/listening to/reading. It's not enough that they be unconvicted, they have to be above suspicion, like Caesar's wife, otherwise the audience is just going to be thinking "perv" whenever they hear DLY's voice.
It's harsh but it goes with the fame and high salaries.
My guess is that if DLT is exonerated completely, and the whole thing proves to be a pack of lies, he'll be back on air. If he escapes conviction but it none the less seems he was partly to blame (not asking the age of a fan, for instance), he might not be.
