When I was teaching biology 20 years ago the death rate for lung cancer was if I remember rightly was 93,000 per year , today it is about 60,000 having fallen steadily amongst men since the smoking restrictions ,however it has increased amongst women.
Cystic Fibrosis is a distressing disease requiring daily treatment . There is no cure and life expectancy is at best about 30 years. A lung transplant is the only hope and even that requires immunosuppressants which in turn can lower the bodies' resistance to other diseases.
