Does anyone know a quicker way to chop bits out of a video file than Movie Maker 2? I am editing some clips I have, and when I go to save them again, it's going to take 90 minutes! (The clip is about 27 minutes long). Is there an easier way to do it in less time. Got loads of movies to edit together and don't have that much time to be wasting. Also, when I try to add video effects to a clip, MM2 shuts down altogether with no warning. Any advice on this would be great.

I've never actually used it, but would VirtualDub be any good? http://www.virtualdub.org/index
VirtualDub would indeed be good. Bear in mind the artefacts that will inevitably occur after multiple compressions of video streams: recompress a compressed stream and it will look awful!
virtual dub is indeed a top freeware.also good for the task are TMPGEnc, Zweistein, moviexone, multiquence. All nonag no trouble, no adware. then there's video edit magic shareware, which never expires but stamps your vid with a logo.. go here for more; http://desktopvideo.about.com/cs/videoeditingsw/in
