I want to buy son a Kindle Fire but dont want to link it to my own bank card for purchases, for obvious reasons! So what are the options?

Can I buy one of those Visa cards you can top up with a set amount and then give that as a present to use for apps etc or can you not link those type of cards to online purchases??

Dotty, I know you work for Smiths and have been trained to sell Kobos but look Smiths website for the Arc - the big selling point is the 'recommendations' based on what the user reads, watches, listens to etc. Tailored advertising.
"16GB Kobo Arc is £159.99, " True

"the fire tends to only be 8GB," The fire has 8GB but includes free cloud storage. The Fire HD has 16GB for 169.99 (without adverts)

"the Arc has an amazing screen resolution that is comparable to the ipad", The Kindle Fire has exactly the same resolution as the Kobo

"the arc has a camera which means you can skype," Just like the Kindle Fire

"twin speakers, earphone plug in, the camera can also video," Just like the Kindle EXCEPT
The speakers on the Arc are in the most ridiculous position. When watching HD movies, instead of one on each side, they're are both on the same side, one above the other. What kind of idiot thought that was a good idea?
