Please help, with regards to my new Hard Disk on my Laptop and getting my tracks from my iPod back onto it, I haven't installed Yamipod or iTunes yet. Which order should I do things, download Yamipod, install iTunes, connect iPod. Then will I be able to transfer from Yamipod into iTunes okay. Thanks.

Hello, I don’t know anything about Yamipod, but if all you need to do is copy your entire music library to your new hard drive, try this.

Install iTunes and ensure that the ‘Keep music folder organised’ check box is ticked, also check the box that says something like ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’. They are both under one of the preferences tabs. At this point you can keep or change the iTunes default folder options, I like to keep my music folder on the desktop.

Attach the iPod, if iTunes opens, close it. Go to ‘My Computer’ and double click on the iPod icon. I think you should now see an icon called iPod Control or something like that, open the iPod Control. Click on Tools > Folder Options > View and make sure the ‘Show Hidden Files And Folders’ radio button is selected. You should now see a folder called iPod Music, your songs will be in folders named 00, 01 02, 03, they also won’t be in any particular order, this is Apples way of discouraging music sharing, but it works fine if you are copying an entire library and don’t need to select specific songs.

Launch iTunes and arrange your screen so that you can see both the music folders on your iPod and iTunes at the same time, then just simply drag the folders one at a time onto the iTunes song space. I had to do the same when I lost all of my album art.

Kenny.
I'll ignore k9nny's comments for now.

answer to your question:

- install iTunes (download latest version)
- make sure iTunes has your itunes music folder set as default: goto edit->preferences->advanced. listedn should be my documents\my music\itunes\itunes music
- download yamipod onto laptop. no installation required.
- plug in iPod. if iTunes pops up asking to associate iPod, click NO and then close itunes
- double-click yamipod, after a few seconds should load up all your music on iPod.
- file->select all. file->copy. keep the default settings intact if you like (help is available here); copy to the directory i mentioned above, that iTunes should have listed too.
- wait while it does this! may take some time depending how much music you have
- once completed, close yamipod. open iTunes, and go file->add folder to library... and choose (once again) this folder i keep referring to: \my documents\my music\itunes\itunes music
- all music should now appear in itunes now, and you should be able to listen to it. yes?
- now click advanced->consolidate library. this will sort your music to how itunes likes it.

thats it!
k9nny's suggestion is just as valid (for copying your entire collection).

but yamipod just does more stuff, such as copying certain songs over, or even your playlists (this is done in playlist->export. in the music source list, make sure it lists the folder i keep mentioning above. then for the destination of the playlist it's going to make, cloose the next folder up in the hierarchy [\my documents\\my music\itunes]. may take a while, as it checks that you have all the songs mentioned in your playlists before copying them over)

also, the great thing about yamipod is that once you've finished using it, just copy the yamipod file onto your iPod (it should be listed as a drive in My Computer), and its there to use whenever you need to, at anyone's computer, and whenever you have any problems.
