Just Jude - have been in your position in 2007 (three kids, 6 months pregnant with twins and just about to go bankrupt). We had to borrow money to get the kids some presents and we didn't have Christmas dinner. Look on the positive side, things will get better.
Oh dear craft, didn't you have trouble last year with a turkey? Surely they can catch you a sea bass between now and Xmas.
As I will be stuck indoors on my own with my leg in plaster I will be getting:

Vodka
Southern Comfort
Baileys
Advocaat

I may order some food but haven't decided what yet.

Thanks Boxy :-)

Jude, I was out of work for 3 months earlier this year and if it hadn't been for compensation from my car accident and the lump sum my mum gave me from the sale of my nan's house, I wouldn't have been able to feed my dog let alone myself. xx
Depends on what is left in the 'Sell By'bin at 4pm on Christmas eve.
Last year I got an 8Kg turkey for £1 , a leg of pork for £1 a huge block of pate for 50p and 4 Kg gammon for £2. 3 weeks meat shopping for £4.50 .
I had a few chickens in the freezer so we wouldn't have gone hungry if there was nothing in the 'left overs' bin. People make too much of Christmas , just another day as far as I am concerned.

Like your style, Jan :)
Mince pies made with orange pastry and cream cheese are in the freezer. Puddings are slowly ripening, cake is being fed weekly ready for marzipan and icing in a couple of weeks, tiny savoury scones to have with bucks fizz instead of a starter are also in freezer, wine is all bought and resting in wine cellar, six dessert wines amongst them.
Keeping it simple and traditional this year, no mucking about with the sprouts or fancy goings on with anything. However am going to give delias caramelised orange trifle a go....anyone made it?
Manchego!
