Believe this is the Queen and Prince Philip's wedding anniversary. Not a great royalist but salute them for sticking together for 65 years.

Happy Anniversary to them both.

They sleep in separate bedrooms....that must be the reason!
I just have this mental image of Queenie and Phillipo on the set of a TV show now, with Bruce in the background intoning "Didn't they do well?" :)
Indeed, I wish them many more years together.

No but just think of the cost of a presidential alternative every 4 years ! Who with their families also have to be protected for the rest of their lives.
OK Phil, Liz has the headphones and mask on, here's your first question:

If we asked Liz what most aggravated her about Diana...

Would she say?

the constant neurotic whingeing?
making a silly fuss whenever Charlie was with Camilla?
or
getting her picture in the papers all the time?

Think carefully now, Juan Carlos and Sophia have already got all their questions right
Happy Anniversary to them both.
Why would a 'presidential alternative' necessarily be elected every 4 years?
Ireland for example is 7.
Hear, hear
//No but just think of the cost of a presidential alternative every 4 years ! Who with their families also have to be protected for the rest of their lives. //

I always find this arguement a bit odd .
Why would there be a requirement to have a ' President ' if there was no Monachy - what is wrong in only having a Prime Minister ?

And before anyone starts having a go , i make no declaration as to my personal position on the question of the existence of the Monarchy
Further , aren't members of the Royal family protected for life ?
You'd need to have a head of state who wasn't the PM. This could be a largely ceremonial role, as in Ireland for example, as referred to earlier
My grandparents were married 72 years which is incredible. I think their bickering is what kept them going, but they completely adored each other deep down. Really sweet, only needing each other all that time, through a world war and all sorts of tribulations they stood by each other.
I'm neither a royalist, a republican nor an anti-royalist, but there's part of me that is really keen for the Queen to beat Queen Victoria's record on the throne...just so we can say, "In your face Victorians...we've won". Like it's some football match.

I think Liz will pass Vicky in 2015...

...is that right?
I heard a couple of amusing snippets about their marriage on the news today.
When asked about the secret of a happy marriage, the D of E replied Tolerance, and thank goodness the Queen has it in abundance.
And when somebody admired the Queen's complexion and said what lovely skin she had, he replied, Yes and she's like that all over.
Made me smile anyway:-)
All the way to answer number 5 before Diana got a mention.

;-) @ Zeuhl

Anyway, I think 65 years of marriage is to be applauded. Happy anniversary Betty and Phil.
I do salute them for that but my parents are still the winners. My parents were married for 71 years until my mother passed away three years ago.
//And when somebody admired the Queen's complexion and said what lovely skin she had, he replied, Yes and she's like that all over. //

What - she still lets Phil see her in the buff ?
Not sure how long ago this was Baz, but I'll ask them for you next time I'm invited for tea.
