The naval Battle of Actium occurred on September 2, 31BC... Octavian became more well known as Caesar Augustus...
And the first Roman Emperor!
I wonder if that bears any relationship to the September 2 we have today - the calendar's changed a lot...
Britain did not switch to the Gregorian calendar until 1752, when Wednesday 2nd September in the Julian calendar dawned as Thursday the 14th in the Gregorian. But 'real' calculations advise us that 2nd September 31 BEC can today be regarded as 20th August as August was Sextilis (6th month) until 8 BEC, but then September was the 7th month of the former latin calendar so it is all rather confusing, what with Octavians calendar reforms as well!
interesting, thanks for that Octavius and hope it helps you Ben

Many thanks for the replies. Are there any unanswerable ones? great site.
so Octavius, your still going strong eh? do you remember the great battles well? and has Varus given you back your legions yet? i would seek legal advise if not!
Well after becoming pater patriae I thought it best to keep a low profile, hence I am using my birth name rather than Augustus.
