Since i was born i have always had dogs in my life and next month it'll have been a year since our last dog died. It's heartbreaking to go through the poorly/dying stage that all pets go through and im just not sure if it would be a good idea for my family to go through all that again. Our last dog suffered heart problems, slight breathing difficulties and a few other things and it was so upsetting to watch him go downhill like he did. We all agree that we must get our dog from a rescue home (as we have done in the past). Do we get two dogs or one, or buy one then think about getting another 6 months down the line?

Any advice from doggy lovers would be appreciated.

Like yourself, i've always kept dogs and its hard when you lose one! What i would do, if i were you is go and look at some rescue dogs soon, if you feel ready but choose very carefully. Then see how the new dog settles in (temprement etc) and then think weather a companion for him would be a good idea..

Good Luck

I definetely think you'd be better to get one dog first. It's going to be a time for getting to know each other, and, easier to do that with a single dog.I hope things work out for you :-) Let us know when you get him/her !!

I think I would go for just the one dog, if you got two and they did'nt get on you could be in the awful position of having to choose. Everytime we loose a dog we always say never again as its too heartbreaking, but we do it all again. Our dogs have a great life and love every minute of it, so we just carry on hoping the new arrival eases the departure of the last.
only other thing to say is that some dogs come in to rescue in twos and it would be very hard for them if they had to be split up, if you could take two dogs then this might be a lovely thing to do as often people can only take one

its painful losing any pet, you just have to remember that it is outweighed by all the years of companionship and happiness you had from them.

its nice to give an unwanted dog a chance of a new home and life. i have a samoyed and she is a rescue dog. i can heartily recommend a samoyed, they are fantastic dogs.
