You split the poppy, the paper flower goes in paper recycling and the stick goes in with the plastics.
I have a knitted one. As with the brooches I still put into the collection each year, but it has a brooch back which keeps it safe.

But shirley if you buy an enamelled poppy that's one step closer to putting the paper poppy producers out of work? Who makes the paper poppies? Doh!
If they ditched the bit leaf, they would save time and money in the manufacturing.
I'm always losing them and probably buy 5-6 of the standard ones to go in my hat every year, which I just bin. I also buy an enamel pin which I save and I always try to find one that's a bit special for Trish, and she's now got a collection of maybe 8-9 that she wears as the mood takes her.
