Noticed on many types of online forums that some member(s) will reply in a thread by posting nothing but a empty space , or just a full stop.
what does this mean - is it an "insult" of "i've got nothing to say?"
Please no blank replies :)

Nobody does that on here , thank goodness. How irritating and annoying that would be..................and rude.
I don't know about other sites but the only time I see it here is where someone has added a youtube link and just need to put a full stop in the Answer box before the submit button will be activated.
Agree with factor, and I've also seen it done to bring that post back up to the top of the Latest Posts list.
Have you, boxtops? I haven't noticed that.
admittedly not very often, tilly - I've seen it done on FB too, to keep a post at the top of the page.
I was wondering whether tali1 couldn't see the youtube clips so it just looked like a blank post
I've often seen it on auction sites where the seller can't be online all the time (who can?) at a similar Q that has is answered to an earlier Q.
IT gets done on here sometimes when somebody with a really offensive username gets banned, even when they are banned the offensive username can still show as the last person to post on a thread, so people post a full stop just to stop the name being displayed.
I've seen it done on here a few times. I always thought it was on trolly posts as if to say not worth commenting on.
And I think we've done it sometimes on here as a quick way of bumping posts with offensive titles off the 'latest posts' list
I've seen it done on facebooks groups to 'bump' the page so it stays at the top or in most recent posts.

okay , so it's a bump for old threads and stopping rude names- but what about active threads that are updated daily and with no rude names?
Are you talking about posts on Answerbank, tali1, or just sites in general
When using mobileAB sometimes when trying to rejoin site you just happen to land on the 'answer box' page. Personally, when this happens, I log out & back on again. This sort of round the houses method takes some time. I expect it'd be a lot quicker to just press 'submit' or'.' & submit.
Question Author
factor30 - not AB but forum sites in general
It bumps the thread up to the top on a lot of forums.
Question Author
That may be , as i 've said before i have seen it on threads that are active on a daily basis
