We have witnessed the abolishment of tobacco products Ads, Tobacco products hidden from view in the supermarkets, the warning signs on alcoholic drinks, and now they are considering turning their attentions to food, so as to cut out obesity.

Yet we constantly see the increase of betting shops on the high street, numerous TV ads for on-line gambling, and the 'buy now pay later', and loan shark TV ads.

Isn't it now time that these issues should also be addressed, as they can cause much distress and hardship to vulnerable persons.

Yet no 'warnings' attached to these.

wasn't thinking of an outright ban, but not sure why we have seen such a proliferation of new betting shops on our streets, and i do think that on line gambling is a problem.
"As adults are we not Masters/Mistresses of our own destiny? "

to a certain degree no, our genes are master of our destiny.

if you have certain genes then you will more susceptible to certain triggers ie: smoking, gambling, certain foods etc etc.

the companies that produce/offer the above are well aware of the fact and use science to that end.

Remember Harridan Harman and her views on opening up gambling. (google it)

Gambling is a mugs game, youll never see a bookie/casino etc go bust.

Its legal theft on a grand scale, but like most things the government rakes in vast amounts of revenue in taxes so they wont wan to rein it in anytime soon.
Emmerdale, well that puts it in perspective doesn't it?

tv soaps, on the other hand, should definitely be curbed, dreadful drain on the national psyche.
agree with that ^^
why do you think nearly every online casion/gambling site offers introductory free bets ?

that should be made illegal, i would hate to see the figures for first timers that get addicted

Not from me it won't, yes I am sure we have all noticed the scratch card phenomenon, I myself have witnessed them come out of the post office after collecting their state benefits, and then straight into the store next door to buy their scratch cards.
our shop/post office sells them and does the lottery

saves time

But it could also be 'desperation' for some.
Ah, that's good, they obviously have your contact de tails then?
mops keyboard again

they do, and it's donald russell deliveries actually ;)
There's no 'vice' I haven't overindulged in. If you're a 'square'(great old word) feel free to tut,tut & frown,if it makes you feel good. Why should it be any business of the goverments as long as I'm not hurting others.
I'd be very surprised if people on benefits have 'spare' money for scratch cards etc, but look on the bright side, if they're spending money on them, they're not wasting it on fizzy drinks, sticky buns or whatever the latest cause celebre for interfering busy-bodies is.
i don't believe gambling is greed, it is certainly an addiction for some, going on the link i provided, there may be up to 250 thousand addicts in UK.
The addict needs the 'high' he gets. The machines in betting shops give him that high every few seconds and he soon loses any sense of the total of losses he has acquired in the process; indeed, he ceases to care, just as the alcoholic ceases to care as he loses his job, his family and his money through his addiction. These machines should be restricted. Can't see that any normal person would miss them, if these disappeared altogether.

And the restrictions on tobacco have now reached the level of absurdity. The customer has to ask for a brand . Simply asking for cigarettes doesn't work . Only with a specific request will the assistant open the cupboard. How that reduces the demand for cigarettes is not obvious.
I love a bet,but yes there is to much advertising,to many opportunities.
