good afternoon folks.

just got back from donating for the 70th time (feel very proud) especially as i have a morbid fear of needles.
the rest of my family did not/do not donate for an assortment of reasons.

it set me wondering ... how many of you good people are blood donors - and what number are you up to?

It was my target to make at least 100 donations, I managed 76 before medical reasons prevented me continuing. Some where in the house I've got a very nice letter from the transfusion service thanking me for my past donations and wishing me the best for the future.

my gold book is tucked away somewhere.
now, of course it's a gold card.
@excelsior - congratulations on reaching 70 units - a real milestone achievement :)

Donor myself, though only in the low 20s.

It is worth remembering that in the UK, all blood donations come from unpaid volunteers, and that roughly 2 million units of blood are collected from just 1,5 million donors. It would help things enormously if more people volunteered to donate....

I'm not sure how many I've done.

It used to be every six months, and now it's three or four a year.
I dont keep a count but must be over 40 now....always remember my first one...the nurse must have thought I was a bit anxious, smiled at me and said " Dont worry honey... its only a little prick".................

........I thought the gopher had slipped out of my shorts.
The "gopher" ???
Yeah..related to Gordon, Miss JJ x......I call him Percy :0)
LOL

I remember the days of the old blue book in which they stuck a dated ticket every time you donated.....and when they still took the blood from your ear lobe to test for iron

Think I'm up to about 45 donations now
I must dig out my old blue book, it's in one of those handbags somewhere with old payslips, maybe even some money, right that's Wednesday's chore
When I got to my 50th donation, they sent me a certificate with my name spelled incorrectly on it. Made me laugh, as I work in a hospital, and you should see just how much care is taken over correctly matching donor blood to recipient typing.
