Personally I think it should be razed to the ground as should anything else that could become a shrine to him or the Nazis

This place is now a popular museum......
I don't want Hitler to disappear from memory, Zeuhl; but the issue here is the (supposed) risk of opening what might be seen as the Adolf Apartments. This may just be a higher form of nimbyism on the part of people living in the street alreay; but I think I'd take the risk seriously if I were German.
The Austrians have never seemed particularly racked with guilt about the war. If they made the building into a hotel they'd increase the number of tourists visiting the area.
razed to the ground, let no stone be left.

<France ejecting Romanians recently was disturbingly familiar. England ejecting foreign dissidents is a similar case. >

Sorry methyl but the whole premise of the german Nazi party; their values and beliefs were significantly different to all but the most extreme elements in France and UK
...ooops yes mark...perhaps not the best choice of words there ... lol

i think there is something good about 'repurposing' it rather than destroying it - hitler destroyed enough in his life... creating something positive out of a negative would sort of be testament to how the world has changed since his time.

destroying a perfectly good building just for this reason is ridiculous - its not like it was nazi headquarters and the place that lot of atrocities and horrors happened - it was just a place a baby was born in!

it will still be the place he was born regardless what building stands there...
anyone who wants to view it that way will just view it as 'the site where the building that hitler was born used to stand'

knocking it down will serve no purpose - its just a kneejerk reaction ... one that hitler would probably love ... to know his name still held such power over people

Turn it into a centre remembering the Holocaust.
good idea ^^

nice sentiment, but not sure its feasible - but in practical terms, what would actually happen in it?
remembering is great, but people cant just sit about remembering the past - it needs a function that is useful.
I think it should definitely be preserved, as a museum focussing on his background, family, rise to power and what can go tragically wrong when one charismatic nutter and a nation of desperate people come together.
I agree with AP.
I think it should just be treated like any other building, doing anything other than that feeds these right wing nutters into thinking they are more important and powerful than they actually are.The whole thing needs treating like the rather lovely old building it is.
