What's the acceptable age of a kitten to go to a new home these days? It always used to be 8 weeks and some years ago when I bred and showed pedigrees 12 weeks was the acceptable age to sell them on.

I was 46 when I got ours.

Max and Storm were 9 weeks old.
Our cat who is now 9 years old was 10 weeks when we picked him up. He came from Cats Protection. He chose us when we went to see the litter at 5 or 6 weeks old. We were told he couldn't leave his mother before 10 weeks and he also would be wormed and vaccinated and was litter trained. We couldn't wait to pick the little scraggy thing up. He's been so lovable ever since. Good luck with yours.
Ours chose us as well, at least one of them did. Max cuddled up to Mrs D so much that we took him and his runt of a sister and, much as we love her, that's exactly what she was, the runt of the litter. They have both been a constant source of joy ever since.
Big mistake to have clicked on the catseeker link - I really like the abyssinian ones there - but we already have a cat and a lodger cat! as you say - their little faces!
Our local Cats Protection are on FB and often have kitties that are available posted on their page.

Remember that kittens are evil and are capable of destroying a house and terrifying a huge dog. They only look cute.
I got Tigger and Blue from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home when they were 2 years. They had loads of kittens there but they wouldn't let me have kittens as I work full-time and live on my own. Mind you when I got tem home they might as well have been kittens as they were so scared they hid under my bed for the first 2 weeks.
We belong to" Yorkie and small dogs rescue".so would recommend a little dog that would make you its idol. Our cats always wanted it the other way round.
