Never go to sleep on an argument. An old chestnut, I know, but still good advice.

My gran was a font of wisdom (sadly all now lost to the hell that is alzheimer's) but I just can't pick one from these gems....Whit's fur ye will no go by ye......Good manners cost ye nuthin.....tae keep yir friends dinna talk about politics or religion.....and the best of the bunch... always remember yir granny loves yae even if naebody else does that might not seem like much but it was what she always said as a goodbye and you could tell she meant it and it can really help when your depressed to know that someone genuinely does love you just for you being you.
Dont put your tongue anywhere you wouldn't put your toothbrush.
Look after your teeth!!!
Never trust an indicator. My college lecturer told me that, and she meant it as in don't trust people who tell you what to do and indicate that you should be doing something - and also don't trust anyone who indicates when your driving. Just coz they signal they're going left, doesn't always mean they're going to - and boy, does it annoy me!!
Assumption is the mother of all Fcuk ups.
A few months after I started working for my present employers, a colleague of veteran (to my young eyes!) status told me never to try and impress overmuch, you get no better thought of, and certainly no better paid. He summed it up with the phrase "You get paid as much for marching as you do for fighting." an expression I have never forgotten, and I have passed on many times. Having always done my job as well as I am able, and never tried too hard, I past the age my colleague was when I received his advice, i have stood by the advice, and it has rewarded me by having no work-related stress what ever, and a long and happy career.
A variation on one already posted but "If you assume you make an A55 out U and ME" (exuse the fives..... AB ie easily offended!)
"If you know of a better 'ole, go to it"

Cross the road in your own time, following other people could get you hurt. Very practical if you live in London and people will insist on blocking your view of the oncoming traffic.
We were discussing peoples job titles and how ridiculous it's all become when a very wise friend of ours said "I don't care what they call me, as long as they pay me!"

says it all really! My dad gave me these words a few months before he died, and whenever I read them I feel as though I can hear him saying them to me.
1.Everybody can teach you something. 2.Always make sure the shower curtain is inside the bath.
