What, very disappointing ending! I anticipated something rather more interesting .

yes, with the charachters they had a few more twists and turns couldve made it more gripping.

however i did like the element of how you never really know someone, even if you are close to them like a mother.

The mother of a murdered daughter summed it up brilliantly when she said 'at 8 you know your child, then you start to lose them' - its very true, we learn how to close ourselves off as we grow older.

I also enjoyed how it depicted the dymanics of how living in a house with children from different marriages can often lead to fraught situations and unhealthy alliances.
O dear, I've recorded it, not sure I fancy it now ...
what snafu said.

Its not for the Ruth Rendell crowd. The title 'A Mothers Son' gives a hint to the suject matter

It really played on the parent/step parent relationship and how that can affect your judgement. Clunes is brilliantly casted as the step dad that wants to support his wife and family but isnt clouded by the lack of judgement that comes with blind love. Something any step parent will relate too. His facial expressions of disbelief at the step sons ever changing lies says 1000 words.

Sometimes Mum doesnt always know best.
I was expecting a bit more of a twist. I must admit though, I did enjoy the unwinding of the relationship between Martin Clunes and Hermione Norris, I doubt it would survive after that.
I guess the twist in this case, was that there was no twist - the prime suspect really was the one wot dun it. :o)
I loved it.I will look forward to the dvd of it being released.Great stuff!
yes I enjoyed it, although i do love a good twist, which this didn't have in the end, I thought it portrayed the relationships very well. I do think about the parents of people who commit crime and how they must feel about what their child has done and i thought it was very thought provoking in that regard.
Agree it was well cast too.
Martin Clunes in brilliant in everything he does in my opinion. The rest of the cast were excellent.
How did it end? My recording stopped just as they were going into the Police station and he lagged behind and she turned to him!! I honesty thought it was the other son, good though.
That was the end Neti. You missed nothing.
