What do you think of the latest news?
Theyve lost the ability to take on foreign students?
What about those who have spent 10s of 1000s of pounds already?
Why cant they just deal with the ones who have no right to be here and leave the ones alone who have!??
The folk interviewed were forensic students, law students etc, and would one day be a great asset to us , and they have paid... So what the problem??

I think there will be some developments on this- some form of compromise.
I expect the government will argue that the University received several warnings following earlier audits and yet continued to take money from students without doing the required checks. Whilst there seem to be some students here who shouldn't be here I am sure there are many who are working hard and deserve to stay- but I suppose that as the university failed to do the proper checks initially it would be very difficult to asses speedily who should and who shouldn't be there. There must be fairer way though

Quite agree Tinks. On the news they were said to have interviewed a number of students and found about 25% should not be in this country.
That being the case what about the other 75%?
It's a pity the same maxim is not applied to those who come from other countries for the sole purpose to commit crime in this country and plead the Human Rights Act not to be deported when they are caught.

I think its an absolute friggn disgrace.
People pay their way to better themselves who the hell are we to take that away from them if they have done everything correctly.
If that was brits acessing education in other countries and this happened and made the news we would be all up in arms! Some o these people have sold their land to come here.

According to this, help will be given to those genuine students who are affected through no fault of their own – but the government has revoked the university’s Highly Trusted Status (HTS) for sponsoring international students and it will no longer be allowed to authorise visas – which, since it appears to have abused its authority, is a good thing.

From some of the reactions I heard from protesters I got the impression that hundreds or thousands were being deported instantly. It now seems they are actually being given 60 days to find new sponsors for their visas.. I don't know whether that means they need to find a new course or whether there is some other way of getting a sponsor.
Sixty days leaves enough time for some sort of compromise I expect- maybe a few hundred to be deported, a fine to be paid by the University, a resignation by a senior member of the university, an apology, and some good publicity for the government who will show they are clamping down on abuse of immigration controls.
