there are some very good books by Thomas Merton and it was sad how he met his death. IN the late 60's I wrote to him at the monastery and he sent me two packets of writings he had done with the novices I believe he is still very popular and books still on sale and I think they have a society of members who meet perhaps at oxford. I hope this is the thomas merton you are thinking about the trappist monk ? good reading
