I was preparing dinner and heard a loud crash / bang from outside, went out to find some old bloke had reversed into my car, he has smashed all the front bumper and the lights in, my car was on my driveway and he had reversing sensors on his car. On the plus side he has offered to pay for the damage without involving the insurance companies.

oh Traci I have been driving for almost 50 years but I still cant reverse and yes Mr S has a reversing sensor put on for me. If I can reverse into a parking space first go I am over the moon.
The problem that I have found with sensors is that they whinge uselessly most of the time. There's a slight bump on one side of our drive and our last car moaned and wailed every time it reversed over it. So you can start to sort of zone it out - perhaps that what your gent did.
It's all part of the shugger that happens Traci - nobody hurt, very very annoying, worse things happen old love.

Maybe I should think about putting a wall across the drive and some gates (very large driveway, used to be forecourt for the business when it was open), annoys me though when people use my drive as a turning point, especially when the road outside of the drive is so wide.
