Many of you may not even have been born when this was going on but anyway, here goes...

In 1984/5 I attended a women's singing workshop run by the good old GLC. The woman running it was keen to teach gospel-type music, but as it was the GLC it was considered politically incorrect to have anything praising the Lord, so she used some African songs instead which had similar harmonies.

We sang a particular song which was called "Breath" or maybe "Ancestors' Breath" and I'd really love to know who it was by so I can buy it to listen to again.

The words were - if memory serves -

Listen more often to things than to beings, 'tis the ancestors' breath when the fire's voice is heard, 'tis the ancestors' breath in the voice of the water.

Those who have died have never, never left. The dead are not under the earth: they are in the something streams, they are in the something woods, they are etc etc. can't remember the rest.

If this rings any bells with any of you avid students of world music, I would be very grateful!
