I was pondering this today while having a sneezing fit..

From my (very) brief ventures into R+S I know that there are quite a few atheists on AB. My question is... If you are a proper atheist, do you say bless you when someone sneezes?

P.S. Don't take this thread too seriously.. It's in Chatterbank for a reason! ;-) x

I have been known to say (or type) "cheesus Christ" but I'm still a christian.
I thought when you sneeze it was suppose to mean the devil is coming out of you and that why others say 'bless you' ....{:o/
There is nothing wrong in pious folk invoking the name of Our Blessed Lord in times of extremity. Some people, however, manage confuse the Lord Jesus with Kraft cheeses.
I'm an improper atheist, I'd have you know.

And, yes, I do say 'Bless you!", but isn't that for the benefit of the sneezer who is assumed to like that, as well as being probably a believer? In reality, it's just a custom. It is not thought of as invoking the deity or seeking to act as one entitled to bless.
"Benedic, Domine, nobis et donis tuis quae ex largitate tua sumus sumpturi; et concede ut, ab iis salubriter enutriti, tibi debitum obsequium praestare valeamus, per Jesum Christum dominum nostrum; mensae caelestis nos participes facias, Rex aeternae gloriae."
I have a friend who has a Mexican wife and apparently if they sneeze an one says bless you,it's customary to say 'god bless me until the good people come' or something like that.
