1. A ditch without a direction and the wall is not wet(2 words)
2. If you add 22 to this it could become addictive.(2 words)

I thought 22 might mean v but can't suss it out.Sir Walter Raleigh brought back the tobacco plant-might be some connection?

Can't figure out Foss Dyke with the clue. Can you elaborate?
2. Long shot for this... The Solent...add a V for 22 gives solvent as in glue sniffing etc.

a fosse is a ditch minus e(direction) gives you Foss.
a wall can be a dyke.In Scotland and in parts of England you can see many Dry-stane(stone) Dykes(walls). Walls built without mortar.
