// Some 39 babies were given the name Fenton, the name of a runaway dog which featured in a viral Youtube clip late last year.
The mini surge took the name up more than 200 places in the rankings from 996 to 781. //

Other high movers include Jensen (as in Button) and characters from the Twight films (Bella and Jacob I think).

Any other recent additions you have heard of?

I know someone with the middle name 'Roker' after Roker park.

And middle names 'Michael Thomas' after the Arsenal player...that's not strange though. Especially when his grandads are called Michael and Thomas.

My kids names are boring. Daughter named after her Nan, daughter named 2nd child, 3rd child named after his Uncle.
Mmm, I suppose Shergar is better than some of the alternatives.....
I have embarrassingly holy names for someone who is an atheist. :-(
"come on Gromit don't you think this thread would be more at home in ChatterBank?"
Yeah ..it's not nearly angry and bitter enough !
A few years ago, I went to the filming of The X Factor. The warm-up guy was chatting to people in the audience, and asked one girl what her name was.

I recall that she was about 17 years old, and she said her name was 'Kylie'.

It occurred to me, that her mother must've named her after Kylie Minogue, because 17 years previous to this, Neighbours was HUGE.

Made me laugh.
I know that the late and much missed John Peel gave one of his sons the middle name of Anfield.

When said offspring protested, Mr peel opined that it was good job he was not a Shrewsbury supporter, or his son would be saddled with the moniker 'Gay Meadow'!!!
My grandson is named after Bruce Lee's son and my granddaughter is named after Anya the buffy character. my daughter is named after claire francis the yachtswoman, a heroine of my husband at the time. my eldest was given a welsh name as we lived in cardiff when he was born.
this new grandchild due january will be called willow if it is a girl after the buffy character, not the movie.
" I wonder if people will realise that this is what Mo is short for when they name their sons!!! "

most competent people will realise its also short for Maurice
Whilst waiting in the doctors the receptionist called for the next patient......Tracey Highland...:-D
I have taught a child called Agamemnon - Aggie to his friends, middle name Elvis
The son's first child is Max. The second, also a boy, is Brook. We waited eagerly for the third to be called Violin [Max Bruch Violin concerto, geddit?] but he's called Orlando, breaking the pattern. Never heard of a boy called Brook before. Perhaps they were expecting a girl.

I had aunts called Tommy and Billy.Their Irish father, my great grandfather, hoped for, or expected, sons. When girls arrived, he simply called them by the boys' names they would have had.
"No big surge in "Boris" then?"

That conjurs up a most unpleasant image?
I love the name Jenson!

My mum and dad got Erin from Joanie in Happy Days :) If it wasn't for her I would have been a Kirsty =s
A friend who worked on a maternity ward asked a young girl what she was calling her baby girl. Kyoomi was the name. Oh, how unusual, where does it come from, asked friend. It's a deodorant on a TV advert, was the serious reply.
My husband once had Gary Baldy, Sean Lamb and someone I forget in one class.
I have been blessed with a new grandson today. William weighed in at 8lb 3oz, mother and baby both doing well. Our family name is Hill, some other family members are not pleased that we have a relative carrying a bookmakers name, what the hell does it matter!!
That's brilliant miss meg (and best wishes to parents and baby!) Someone's bound to say that the Lad won't be Broke. He'll get used to his name, you can bet on it.
