VW BORA - fan lights HELP!

I have a 52 plate vw bora. the lights behind the fan controls dont work. can you just replace the bulbs and how do you get access to them.

Had the same trouble with a 02 Golf, lights would sometimes work and if they didnt I used to bang the side of the casing which would bring them on till the next time I switched the lights on.

Sorry to be negative but I got the guy who was servicing my motor to sort it as I could not figure how to get to the back of the unit, and yes they are bulbs
