...............and how long do you get to keep them for?
Question Author
Well, I was thinking to help keep them until they'd completed their education. Then they'd have to make their own way in the world.
Mmmmmm, I'll have to rethink that one then.
We have been sponsoring a child for several years (with a group of others so it cuts down the monthly costs) I think we pay £25 month between 12 of us, until the child finishes their education. There are lots of organisations, but we do ours through compassion uk and there has no been absolutely no problems at all, but I do know you have to be careful, as you have to ensure it goes directly to the child. A very kind thing to do Sandy ................

Thank you, Ann86. I'll have a look at compassionuk later today.
I know it was part of the Tear Fund charity (not sure if it still is?) supported by Sir Cliff Richard.
I sponsor a little girl - now a woman for about 20 years in Ethiopia. I pay £10 a month now the little girl has grown up my money continues on to help the next little girl and so on and so on. My trust is Kindu Trust and was initially started by a lady from Plymouth called Kate Fereday - she went on to live and marry an Ethiopian and adopted two little boys of her own and still there. You can google. They also send you bumph how your little girls or boys are doing. They can send "too much bumph". Tho Good luck Sandyroe
Having just seen this thread, Sandy, I must push for Actionaid. I signed up way back in the 70s. It was a £1 a week then. Today, I think my d/d is for around £13 per month.

My wife and I have two charities doing the same thing through our church sandy.
Love in Action is a charity based in Uganda and set up by a couple who went from us about eight years ago, and Cry in The Dark which is a children's hospice in Romania, also set up by a man who went there about 1995.
I went out there just before Christmas 2010 to pass out Christmas shoe boxes and it is a very humbling experience.
There are many more, I'm sure and any and all of them are desperate for sponsors. Our average amount is £12 pm and we sponsor a little boy in Uganda and get regular updates.
You pays your money and you takes your choice.
Sandy - I have checked with our group and we pay £21 per month to our sponsored little girl in the Dominican Republic. This is a higher amount than some organisations as it also pays for a Christmas and birthday present for her in addition to her education costs. She regularly sends us photos and letters to tell us about her life, family and how she is getting on at school - and we reply to her through Compassion Uk.
Hi Parkdale can you please send me the link to the Romanian charity - is it a Christian one? Our minister is part of the Christian charity "Children for Christ" in Virfurile, Romania and he visits annually for a week to train the leaders for the summer camps. I wanted to ask him if he has heard of the Cry in the Dark organisation, he will be interested I'm sure. Thanks. Ann

Hi Ann. Yes it is a Christian run organisation. The man who set it up is Steve Cooper and his e-mail address is [email protected].
His 'Girl Friday' is [email protected].
I believe they are both out there at the moment and can sometimes have problems receiving their emails but will try to find out for you.
Their hospice is near Bacau Airport. I don't know where that is in relation to Virfurile.
He didn't pastor a church in Leicestershire until he retired , did he? We know of a Steve Cooper.
No Ann. He's about mid to late 40's and originally comes from Surrey or Sussex I think. Our church is based in Colchester, Essex. The contact for CITD info by the way is [email protected] and I think the Beth Johnson email is a small 'b' for beth.
Thanks parkdale for info, have found the website thanks!
