I was completely grey and I used Garnier blonde colour which was very nice. However, when the grey roots started to show I coloured it again, and again. I didn't just do the roots as I should have done ! Now my hair is a browny beige, not blonde. Would buying a silver shampoo help?
I did read about some stuff that strips the hair of colour, but my hairdresser did not recommend I do it myself, she said just to let it grow out.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Your hairdresser is a hair expert, why would you disregard their advice but take notice of what another person on here tells you? I would advise that you do just as she says or risk the consequences. This is why the dye pack tells you to only treat the regrowth.
No shampoo will touch it. Why not use a permanent blonde that will bleach and lift the colour?

Thanks very much for your prompt replies. I think I will let it grow out.
I used to colour my hair. I didn't know what colour it was underneath I did it so many different colours. However I got to a stage when I let it grow out. It was dark and I had always thought it was mousy brown. Now it is snowy white and I don't really care, although my hairdresser puts a silver shampoo on it now and then to bring out the highlights. Lot of good it does me though, at my age.
I used to colour my hair myself when it was a bit grey ..Now it's even more grey home colouring made it look flat and dull even with just doing the roots .Let it grow out rather than put more chemicals on it then have it done at a salon .A mixture of high and lowlights looks nice .What they call frosting and it blends it all in without having that flat all over one colour .I wouldn't attempt to colour my hair myself these days with so much grey .I'd rather leave it to the experts :)

Thanks Starbuckone and Shaneystar2. I agree, at my age who cares. I will let it grow out and grow old gracefully !! Silver shampoo would be a good idea when I am grey again. Although, highlights is a good idea. Thanks again.
awww c'mon - dont give up on your hair. Good tint & styling knocks years off your image.

If you MUST DIY (not adviseable with full grey) then apply to roots as directed but emulsify 10mins before shampooing, (so the tint covers all the hair to match). Dont waste time letting it grow out, as its too ageing & looks unkempt.
