16.32 sq m
16.32
4.8 x 3.4 = 16.32 m²

That was quick ! I have been trying for ages to figure it out ! Thank you so much .
4.8 x 3.4

type that into google, jasmin... then click search.
(just in case you need to work out anything else in the future)
Question Author
Thanks Mick I will do.
No offence Jasmin but this is basic long multiplication and if it was causing you a problem maybe you should go back and ask your secondary school maths teacher what they were doing during class ?

Assuming you didn't memorise your multiplication tables all the way to the 34 times table ;-) the way you work this sort of thing out in future is as follows:

4.8 x
3.4

Multiply by the 3 first and by the 0.4 afterwards.

3 x 8 = 24, put down the 4 and "carry" the 2 in your head ready to add to the result in the tens column.
3 x 4 = 12. Remember you were "carrying over" 2 so add that to give you 14.

First bit = 144 (i.e. 14 tens and the 4 units you worked out just before)

Ah but recall you were multiplying 4.8 by 3 not 48 by 3, so that's 1 digit after the decimal point so you need to move the decimal point in your answer by 1 too.

Final First bit = 14.4

4 x 8 = 32, put down the 2 and "carry" the 3 in your head ready to add to the result in the tens column.
4 x 4 = 16. Remember you were "carrying over" 3 so add that to give you 19.

Second bit = 192 (i.e. 19 tens and the 2 units you worked out just before)

Ah but recall you were multiplying 4.8 by 0.4 not 48 by 4, so that's two lots of 1 digit after the decimal point, so you need to move the decimal point in your answer by 2 too.

Final second bit = 1.92

Add both bits together

14.4 + 1.92 = 16.32

In fairness this looks rather unwieldy when done in words on a post where one has limited ability to format the text so things line up properly

I'll try a figure only thing below but suspect it'll look all wrong.

4.8 x
3.4
====
14.4
1.92
====
16.32
OG - just use a bloody calculator - it's quicker!!!
Well, you've got to know, that to find the area of a surface you multiply the length by the width. If you don't know that, long multiplication is not going to help is it?
lol, OG
Do you think that helped?
Yes. If all you do is depend on calculators you don't understand anything and are dependent on technology working. Education is all about learning things.

Old Geezer I thought this a site where you could ask for help and advice, obviously I wrong eh ? I didnt ask this question to be humiliated by you ! In future i wont bother !
OGs post does have a certain validity
jasmin please don't be put off by this experience x you will find loads of people on here to help in the a/z that is answerbank there are a lot of nice genuine helpful people, not all here to give sarky help.
Can't believe at times how some people on here that should know better just get a thrill from belittling people and they say young people are disrespectful !!
''Education is all about learning things''

Indeed. Perhaps you should learn to not be quite so derogatory in your passing on of knowledge?

On the other hand, don't let it get to you and continue using AB when you want to.

At least you now know how much carpet to buy ;-p
