Modem trouble...

I've been using a modem issued by my ISP a number of years ago. The modem suddenly stopped working, though the sim card still works. I inserted the sim card into a generic modem and all's well. The only drawback of the generic modem is that it doesn't have a feature to check your remaining data (probably because it's generic and not issued by the ISP). My question: Is there any way at all that I can check my remaining data, other than inserting the sim card into a phone and checking (like I've been doing, though it's an effort)?
