Grid fill a little too straightforward for my liking but fair enough. Not entirely happy with the instruction though. Taken literally it doesn't seem quite right. Anybody else think this? I am confident that my solution is correct but there is that slight niggle.

Hello Twit-who, I have followed the instruction, but I think you are correct that it isn't quite right. What I have done indicates the title of the EV, and the event is appropriate.

Yes, I have the appropraite event too. My problem was with the second word of the instruction - I would rather have used the unclued light.
I did try looking for other themed second words of the unclued light, in the grid, but to no avail! Grid gazing is not my favourite hobby!
Agree with the comments. A quick glance at my Dictionary of Dates made life a lot easier. The redundant letters were not as elusive as they sometimes are.
An enjoyable EV, and interesting theme.
I think it works if taken diagrammatically.
Like others I found the grid fill straightforward but feel vaguely uneasy about whether I've correctly and completely fulfilled the instruction.
Thanks for the tip slaney!

I had another look at my grid and can now see a passable depiction of the 'second' word.
Thought I had it solved (7 shaped) until I read this - will look again. If anyone wants a different slant on the theme look at this weeks Inquisitor - I have a poor but readable scanned copy ([email protected])
You're welcome K.
On a different note, Fifteen Squared website ...

...says that one can now send in a scanned copy. I've just tried it and it seems to have worked.
Hi Slaney!

For the last two weeks all Sunday Telegraph crosswords can be entered by email. It will save on stamps and probably lead to an increased entry.
Hello Novalis,
It rather looks as after the recent dismissal Harry Redknap by Spurs, your team have missed an opportunity to recruit him! His hound and it's bank account could have made an impressive logo!
Here I am trailing along, miles behind everyone else! Have filled the grid and got words from the extra letters, but now I am stumped! How, or more importantly where I am supposed to exert my artistic skills has by-passed me......hob-nailed hints please N & Cers all.
Hi Devadolly!

Diagonally - Sounds as if you should "inform Ringo".
Thank you novalis, I am still floundering as I cannot see any connection between, what I am sure is the answer to the unclued across, a very elderly piece of hardware, an equally aged hit single and the omitted letter composition. I am now cross-eyed and fuddled.
devadolly

Hidden in the grid, in a crescent shape, is the site for the unclued light.
If you 'colour' ( first word in the instruction) that and the old 'hit single' you should have a pretty good depiction of the second word in the instruction.
Hope this makes sense.
Thank you all for trying, I'm just getting cross with it now and it's going over my shoulder! I had the word you gave K. plus a receptacle 'and' a piece of pub games equipment. But no connection can I find with the unclued, or the connections I considered in reply to Novalis. All just too much, but thanks to all for trying to nudge me in the right direction.
Hi Devadolly
Take the unclued answer and the word that novalis pointed out and put them both into google. It should give you an anniversary as reported on the bbc site.
Thank you spreadman, I did as instructed and found the connection.............not one I would ever have thopught of! Retrieved said EV from recycling heap and found the requisite lights. Good thing it's summer (it IS summer isn't it?) or it might have gone to light the fire!
Devadolly, I am the compiler of this one (of course we follow the Answerbank thread!) mine always seem to frustrate you and almost to light the fire. I am so sorry it caused you such frustration and, as usual, grateful to Kayakamina for his input. He's a star.
