“In Australia a perfectly good building was demolished and an
almost identical one built on exactly the same site. The original
building was in good condition. Why demolish it?” – Any ideas?
This is supposed to be a true story. Can anyone help me with an answer?
It was an Australian Mint Building, where over the years so much gold dust had infiltrated into the fabric of the building, that it was worth it to demolish it to recover the gold.
They then built an almost identical building on the same site, and made a profit on the whole exercise!
