How do I listen to music on windows XP LAPTOP without the singer sounding as though they are on helium. Help please.

If you're using Windows Media Player, launch a track and go to the the <Play> option. In there is a speed settting. You could just hold down CTRL + SHIFT + N and that'll do the same.
Perhaps you need a better sound card. I'm not a techy but maybe someone else will help.
You may have a soundcard audio manager type software on your PC, within this you can raise or lower the pitch as to make a karaoke-type effect, this will then in turn speed up or slow down the tracks being played.
