No I know. I think that's why it was shut down in the first place, though happily that decision has now been overturned.
I remember school dinners being as bad, thank heaven there was an alternative, the local cafe.

Mine were lovely at primary school but it all went downhill from there. We used to bunk off to the local chippy.
Our school dinners were rubbish, so by secondry school age it was the chippy for me mainly.
a friend of the family worked in a local cafe, so it was handy..

I used to love going back for extra bowls of custard.
i confess that custard and i never really hit it off, but i am beginning to revise my opinion slightly.. as long as something like chocolate goes in it.
as a treat mind you.
Think im the only person ever who liked and still does like school dinners!

About 15 years ago I had a part time job in a primary school canteen, and put on crap loads of weight as i was eating all the leftovers- they were delicious!

One of my favourite puddings was the jamy sponge with coconut on top.
Also, to this day I have never been able to find the recipe for the chocolate pie they used to serve. It had a mousse-like filling and had a swirl of something resembling cream on the top.
I just read the whole thing - what a lovely, bright wee girl! I must confess to having a bit of a tear in my eye at her last entry, but hopefully she'll be posting again since the ban has been lifted. She's raised an awful lot of money for a nine year old - and for such a good cause. Good on you Martha!
Good god - that pic in the BBC article is appalling. How can they possible serve that up to children?! Because most of them will at least attempt to eat it I suppose.
B00, I liked school dinners as well.
Chocolate sponge cake with chocolate-flavoured 'custard'. To this day, I can remember how grim that was...and they also used to serve a meat and potato dish that used to test my gag reflex every time I ate it.

Not sure what the meat was exactly...probably some poor beast who came a cropper at Beeches Brook...
I used to get monster portions at school dinners as well as a few seats to sit on.

Nessie TLNM

:-p
grim pickings!
Heading for 6m already, will be @ 10m by end of the week. IMO
