Without the volume and revenue from Direct Mail companies our postal services would collapse all together!

Are you also keen to stop advertising in newspapers, magazines, TV and Radio?
///Without the volume and revenue from Direct Mail companies our postal services would collapse all together!///

Would that be a bad thing? We can barely afford the service thanks to the two 'posh boys' plus George Osborne.
<Would that be a bad thing?>

Let's see now....

No Royal Mail?
No way of receiving a letter other than an expensive one-off courier service?
No way to send Christmas/Birthday cards?
No way even to receive the 'junk mail' that happens to be about something we're interested in?

Probably not a great option.

Zeuhl - approximately 100% of fashion items my wife & daughter purchase are all made online so why don't they use junk email instead and save a hell of a lot of paper and trees? I have absolutely no objection to other media forms of mail but the paper throwaway stuff just fills my recycle bin!
They still use paper based campaigns because they still work.

All DM is based on results and profitability.

Digital media are used now but they don't produce the returns for a lot of companies, products and target audiences.

As long as paper based does generate cost effective results it will be used.

And of course, volume mailers benefit from generous discounts on postage.
I still get junk mail even though I requested the Post Office to stop it. It must be very difficult for the mail handlers to separate it out so a wasted application.

i don't know what the post office told you but they can't 'separate out' certain types of mail and not deliver it - that would be illegal!

if a company has paid postage on something or paid a delivery fee for unaddressed materials to be enclosed with the mail then the post office is legally obliged to deliver it for obvious reasons.

You can put your details on the Mail Preference Service as kiki suggested.

Responsible direct mail companies should match their files to that and suppress mailings to anyone on the list.
There a growing amount of junk mail which is simply addressed to The Occupier.
At least we can recycle it now, instead of just putting it in the bin as in earlier days.

Box tops - that's a very positive answer-I like it!
If it comes with a prepaid envelope, post it back in that - they have to pay postage, so why not send it back and effectively waste their money as they are not getting you as a customer!

You can also use the above to get rid of all the other rubbish they put hrough your door. MPS can only stop Companies actually sending mail addressed to you.
it is a good idea to save junk mail with prepaid envelopes and send them someone else's junk in different envelopes back to them that way they get unsolicited mail.
I like how you think Guillie!!!
