I am receiving texts on my mobile from firms who do not identify themselves but tell me I need to claim for PPI, claim for the accident I have (not) had and lately telling me that I can have my debts (which I don't have) written off because of new legislation. I have an Orange mobile phone and would like to know how these people have obtained my mobile number. I tried phoning Orange but it took 5 minutes to get past the press button stage, and while talking to an operative I was cut off. Needless to say they did not ring me back. Does anyone have any ideas?

You must have entered your mobile number on a form (online?) at some point, the company whose form it was have possibly sold a list of contact numbers on to someone else.
its just random... i have had a few too... they assume sooner or later someone will be a hit and reply.

just ignore them. dont reply, as they are sent in bulk so it wont stop the next lot

people sell lists of phone numbers too.

Thanks daffy654. I wondered about this, but I never give my mobile number to anyone, only a home number if one is required when buyoing on line, which it usually is. Someone must be running a business selling numbers. I discovered today, from a firm which rang me that there is a marketing directory, which they buy and can then ring anyone to drum up business. Seems like BT have a lot to answer for.
