got one of my two a day (at least) phone calls from India yesterday, so i though this time ill go along with it instead of say "bog off" he told me i was due to some miss sold mortgage protection policy ,, blah blah blah, he knew my name address ,he explainer things, asked if id wait for his superior to get on the line, a lot more gaff was said then i had to hold on again he came back on the line and said "hello can you say hello to my colleague" so i said "hello" it was a girl speaking from the uk in Leicester working for "abc claims" so this is how these people get round being blocked by the TPS service.
uk companies using this scam should be reported and stopped from doing this
btw i dont have any mortgage, never had,

I had a call a few weeks ago saying I would be given £50 if they could not save me money on my mortgage.
I strung them a long a bit and then asked how they were going to save me money on my mortgage as I paid it off about 20 years ago.
I am still awaiting my £50.

John
You're right deggers, we're TPS and we are inundated with Indian callers re. mortgages (paid ours off 20 years ago), loans (never ever had one) and then scams saying 'There are errors on your computer' etc. plus survey participation (all to do with energy, etc.) It is EXTRA annoying when they say 'Good day m'am, how are you this morning?'
How can these be stopped we are heartily sick of them?

i have just found this and sent a complaint to them.
from the TPS web site..............
Companies based abroad who call into the UK and who are making calls on behalf of UK based companies, must comply with UK regulations and screen their call lists against the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) before making an unsolicited sales and marketing call to a UK telephone number. We do make the file available to overseas based companies under licence for the purpose of suppression so they know whom not to telephone but, many overseas companies who telephone the UK on their own account from overseas do so to avoid legal and self regulatory restrictions.
If you have received a live unsolicited direct marketing call from overseas from a company that you can identify and whom you think may be a UK company please log a complaint with TPS using the online complaints form.
If is deemed by TPS that the unsolicited direct marketing call that you received from overseas was from or made on behalf of a company with presence in the UK we will investigate, and raise a complaint in the UK against the offending company where it is possible to do so.
"so this is how these people get round being blocked by the TPS service."

TPS doesn't block anything, it just provides a list of numbers that UK based companies (and their overseas agents) shouldn't call. Also, not all types of calls are covered by the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003, which is the legislation that TPS evokes. Market research calls are exempt, for example.
Thanks deggers I will have to grit my teeth and engage with them to find out which companies are doing it.
I have for a few years now, let all my calls go to answerphone, if it is
someone legit, they speak on command, and I will pick up, if its a nuisance call e.g. india, they hang up.
I do the answerphone system also. Quite a few callers hang up.

not according to that info ive just posted
Howard....I get a regular one, they call at 1.15pm and 4.15pm every day. I
think they do it on a rota, it goes quiet for about a week. In the past I have picked up and said politely "no thanks"...do they take notice????
Now and again I do 1471, just to check...as thats free...and yes always
same number.

they don't actually block calls true, but they can take action in some cases against companies who disregard the tps listings of registered members the have been sent
If it's an 08, or a concealed number I usually answer with a very positive "Hello, and who's trying to sell me something now?" amazing how many people hang-up!
That's why we registered with the Call Prevention Registry instead - you have to pay but it blocks nearly all calls, and if any get through you just report them, and CPR contact them and take action against them if they don't take you off their call lists.

i dont want to pay for this,
i dont need caller display or answer phone i only have two people call me,i have no family left, i pay line rental that's enough for me, its just bl**dy annoying i have to answer in case its one of my 2 friends that may need help
Why should you have to pay for unsolicited calls from abroad? do you not think you pay enough, simple answer to these calls, if it takes them above 3 seconds to talk to you it will take you one second to put the phone down, Simple.

but i still have to do drop what i'm doing to answer it ! i could be upstairs or in the garden the phones in the hall,
i have answered and i do know that if it quiet for 2/3 seconds its a call from india and i do put the phone down, ive even taped the news from a web site in hindi
and played that down the line leaving the phone next to the player for a couple of minutes,to annoy them "simple"
I understand Deggers, other than telling them to fck off, ( I do not do that) I just put the phone down, I must admit that they have become less. The ones that kept ringing regards my broadband & infection, they have stopped.

well heres hoping
i had my b/band call this morning.lol
My friend who only has a couple of people calling her does this. Whenever any of them ring they let the phone ring twice, then hang up. They then ring again and my friend knows it will be them. Simples!
