Windows 2007 operating in compatability mode

I'm very happy with Office 2007. For some reason when I logged on today, all my documents have changed to a blue format and a message tells me that I'm operating in compatability mode. Yesterday a lot of updates were downloaded automatically.

Only a few of the compatability mode functions are working because I'm being asked for a licence key which I can't provide because I've lost the original number provided when I bought 2007.

My Word and Excel documents appear to have been high-jacked. How can I return to my original 2007 settings which are ideal for me? I have thousands of documents and would like to return them all to the old format, preferably not one at a time.

Can anyone tell me what's happening and how I can prevent it? I've Googled the problem, but either I can't understand the solution or the query is too issue specific. I'm not technophobic but then I'm not a technophile either. Please be gentle. Thanks.

Problem now solved. I opened a document, it initialised and then everything reverted back to where I want it to be. Thanks anyway.
If you can't provide your licence key you should be given the option to "activate by phone". Select this and you will be given a code and a freefone tel number to call. Follow the instructions given on the phone and you will be given several sets of numbers to input on your machine. When this is completed you will be registered again and all the compatability issues will be dealt with.
This can happen from time to time with large update downloads.

Thanks SMP - I've resolved the issue but I didn't want to operate in the new mode which is what I assume would have happened if I'd keyed in a licence number. I like my warm and cosy old format - familiarity is my best friend. Thanks again.
