Hi, has anyone used a company that works on the basis of no win, no fee, in respect of possibly claiming back PPI on a loan or credit card? I have been approach by one company who would require 30% of the settlement if my case was to win, but I have also been told that to do it yourself, you just have to write to the H.O of the company, complete with a cheque for £10.00 to request a copy of the credit agreement, thus avoiding wasting time, but I'm not sure what to do, if I was to win, it would annoy me that I would lose 30%, but equally, maybe they would be more professional in their approach and thus receive the result that I am hoping for!

There was an article on one of the radio 4 programmes this last week on the very subject of people being ripped off by these companies - many people have been done over by small print that says they owe X amount administration fees come what may.
Listen to Money Box and you'll soon realise not to touch these companies with a bargepole, especially if they ask for your credit card number

Use the do-it-yourself standard letetrs on the Martin Lewis MSE site. if your case is valid it'll be easy to DIY. If you pay them to do it you'll still have to spend time collating info for them and you may find you have to pay upfront until they recover your money much later
Who was the ppi with? if it was Halifax all you have to do is call them, and they go through the complaint over the phone so easy!
i claimed successfully by using a template on martin lewis' website and it cost me nothing! You are just as likely to win as they are - there are no tricks they know that get them to win - it was a very easy procedure especially if you are sure you are in the right as I was.

all you need to know and templates are in here!
I did exectly the same as jewellerjim. It was very easy and got all the money back and didn't have to give any to a company that only does the same as you can do yourself.
There was an article on the BBC lunchtime news about this saying that it is easy enough for the public to do it themselves but a spokesman for the PPI companies says that they can get more for the applicant but what else would they say.
