Can anyone give me some info on anti virus please? I have Norton 360 that I got with my laptop and quite happy with it, but for a renewal they want £60, seems expensive to me. I use my pc for internet, downloading, banking, any advice on a better option (that won't slow down my laptop) appreciated.

Lots of people seem to recommend the free AV software, but we've been with Norton for years, we pay about the same as you, and we're very happy with it. It's stopped a number of potential attacks, it does what it says on the tin.
It is normally cheaper to buy the product "new" than pay for a renewal.

Hunt round various web sites like Amazon and see if you can get a better deal for buying it new.
I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials for some time with no problems. It's free and you can get it here :-

Lots on here use the free versions of Avast, AVG and (as above) MSE. I use Kaspersky which I get free with my on-line banking (Barclays).

Thanks folks! Like the sound of 'Free' SlackAlice, have you been useing banking etc with this as your antivirus?

Hi gingejbee, there is one offered on the log-in of my Clydesdale Bank called Rapport, but there is no info about it.
don't know about slack Haggis, but I do my banking online, and purchase goods from various websites without a problem, and have done so for a few years!.........
I used to use AVG until I switched to Windows 7 about 3 months after it came out. AVG at that time did not have a compatible free version (they do now I hasten to add).
So I switched to MSE and use it all the time. Yes, I do bank online as well.

Great stuff, thanks everyone! Gonna give MSE a go - as it's free- Cheers!!
I have always found Norton on sale in shops for about half the on-line renewal price. I have never renewed on-line.
Rapport is not an anti virus

Thanks oj, wondered if it was just for that site! Cheers Howard but I am off on my hols this weekend and only have 5 days left so gotta act now. Right enough about the lower prices in the shop, but free MSE is worth a look as noo ne has grumbled about that one at all
no probs
It is quite handy though to have it
You get little pop ups if you enter the same password on other sites as you do for your bank
Hi Haggis, I used to pay for Norton but for the past 5 or 6 years have used the free one from AVG and had no problems at all and PC seems to run faster than it did with Norton. Many of the free ones mentioned are just as good as the paid for ones IMO. Before you do put on a new one though make sure that you remove all of Norton 360 then download whichever you decide to use.
