3G in Saudi Arabia?

Hi there,
My mum is moving out to Saudi Arabia in a month and would like to buy a Kindle to take out there with her. She's choosing between the £89 and £149 model, the best advantage of the more expensive one being the 3G meaning she could download books on the go. But we're unsure whether Saudi Arabia actually has 3G coverage? A google search hasn't helped much so I wondered whether anyone on here could!

Many thanks

Well a quick google showed me there are several providers that offer a 3g service. although as in England, exactly how good that service may be depends on exact location. Saudi Arabia is a pretty large place, if you say where she is moving to it might be possible to find a coverage map for the area.
Saudi is not short of a penny and their communications networks are very good, especially in the areas that Westerners are likely to live (because they are in the large cities usually).
The important thing is not so much whether they have 3g as whether Amazon has an arrangement with a 3g network provide in Saudi Arabia.

This site has a list of countries where whispernet is not available:

One of which is Saudi Arabia
3G is covered in most of the biggest cities in Saudi Arabia, but it is not fully covered.
but the small cities are not covered at all.
FYI, the internet speed is not that fast compared to the USA. (I was there).
