Does anybody if it is a legal requirement to have a post code on the bottom of your car. no. plate ?

I got several new car no.plates made & fitted by a car dealer recently and they have the name of the dealer and his post code on both plates.

I was going to remove them and get new ones fitted with a small saying at the bottom of the no. plate... is this legal ?

Any help please ?

I don't have any details on my number plates. I have a private plate and the garage where I bought my car made them up for me and didn't put any of their details on them. I have seen plates with a saying on the bottom, I should think it's perfectly legal so long as it doesn't interfere with the main lettering on your number plate
Ignore my answer following shoota's post! lol
...and we all know that *everybody* adheres to these regulations, to the letter.
According to an article in this week's Sunday Times the government has given in to the vanity plate industry. It will be allowing owners to move letters closer together to more easily spell words.

This, apparently, is not an early April fools joke!

The association of Chief Police Officers warned that the move could reduce the accuracy numberplate recognition cameras.
post code & dealer is a legal requirement as far as i am aware, nothing else apart from the BS stamp. Hence why dealers use plinths to mount the plates which allows them to put there web site address underneath.
Official number plate machines/Pcs/printers wont actually allow you to print anything else on the plate.. yes, i know people do...
If you don't want the postcode on the plates to stand out get them done at Halfords. I thought they'd given me some without it but they actually put them on in very faint colour so you have to look really closely to see it, but it's still there.
i know of a car that failed its MOT because of no postcode
