Having read the question and any answers, I am having a problem getting back to the main page by clicking on the "back "arrow. More and more I am having to click on the AB tag to get back.
Is it just me??

I'll make a note of the Chrome bug for the techies to investigate, thanks for bringing it up.
I have the main page I'm looking at open, then any topic I want to read I open in a new window (right click on cursor). Then when I close the page I opened I'm back to the main page. I find it quicker than using the back arrow.

Karyn, Thank you.
Just to say that this back button "advertisement" page problem is rearing it's ugly head again. Happens both at my work and home PC. And IIRC on my woman's PC also. Been noticable for at least a week. Rather annoying. I wait ages for a page load and when it has finally finished it has simply reloaded the same unrequired page again !
IE 8 for sure. I suspect FF also.
Sames as Old_Geezer and it happens with IE7 and IE8.
Guess what - I read this post and immediately have become affected by the same problem or rather - the computer has.
Never had this problem before........

It's rubbish with IE9...............
I've not been on AB very long obviously, cos I can't see a black arrow, can't even see the bloody injuns.

Having started this thread, I thought that I would let you know that the IT bods appear to have fixed the problem with Chrome , I have just tried three times to quit pages using the back arrow, each time it worked. Well done guys and gals.

Scrub round that last comment, I cannot get away from the front page of this article using the back arrow.
Has anybody tried what nibble suggested - it works.
If you right-click your back button, then it displays the current cache of pages visited on this site, usually the 1st page listed on the back button is the current/last advert running on the site, which by just clicking the back button is attempting to give you that advert. The advert is usually running for a set time on the page, which is less time than that which you spend reading/answering a question here, so your browser is trying to load a "defunct" link to a page... Hence, we all get the "back button not working" scenario.

Ed does this compute with the Techies?

For a simple run-around the problem, Right-click back button>Select second page(usually page you were on). carry on as you were!

Hope this explains....:-)

Ladybirder,
Yes , I have , and you are right it does work, but the fact remains that it is only when I am using Chrome that i have the problem, here on Firefox, back means back.
Out of interest, it seems to be working fine on IE9 this morning
