How are you fitting this ?

Is it an internal CD rom (inside the PC case?) or an external CD rom (atttached to somethoing like USB?)

reboot system
if its internal (as i suspect it is), is the dvd player being connected to the same cable that connects the cd player? If so, is the cd player's jumper set to master? If so, set the dvd to slave, as you have, and it should all just work.

Then again it is windows ME...

Hi Tigga, As you haven't really detailed your system hardware lets assume that you set it up like this -
1. You have one hard drive, it is connected to IDE slot 1 on the mobo and set to master. it is the only drive on that cable.
2. you have a cd-rom drive, it is connected to IDE slot 2 on the mobo and set to master. it is one of two drives on that cable.
3. you have a dvd-rom drive, it is connected to IDE slot 2 on the mobo and set to slave. it is one of two drives on that cable.
4. you have checked that all the cables are connected so that pin 1 (the side of the cable with the red stripe) is connected closest to the power connector.
5. you have connected the power supply to each drive.

When the system boots you should be able to read what devices are found on the IDE bus. is the hard drive, cd and dvd shown?

If yes try windows again to see if the drives appear.

Thanks all - qapmoc, as far as i remember i set it up as you describe although the jumper for the cd rom, (master) has climbed out and ran off somewhere along the line so i will aquire one and try again following your guidance, Cheers again.
