I am talking about the Universe, and is it possible that it can!

My science teacher at college told me many years ago that if you keep on thinking about it, you could go crazy!

Its so hard to digest that it could go on for ever in space but, at the same time there must be something on the other side when it has ended?

Whats your thoughts?

Why, do you know where it starts ?
Amazing question, Morgan freeman is currently doing episodes on the universe called something like through the wormhole where it ends or begins, so baffling but that is a fine show and looks into different possibilities.
there can't be anything beyond it because by definition the universe is everything. There is no time or space outside it.
But if the universe is forever growing, what is it growing into? This is the kind of thing that freaks me out. I'll be thinking about it all day now!
Do you mean timewise or distancewise ?

Assuming distancewise, the only explanation that makes sense (of a sort) to me is the concept of curved space. That if you lived forever and moved faster than light, and set off in a straight line (however you work that out) that you'd eventually end up back where you started (however you managed to recognise it). So space is finite but doesn't end. Any experimental data that suggests space is flat implies to me we simply don't have the ability to note how small the curvature is, nor how vast the universe is.

As you imply, any attempt at a different explanation makes it very difficult to come up with what sounds a reasonable answer.
It doesn't grow into anything, it simply grows. It creates the space needed 'from scratch' as it goes.

Ought this not be in the Science section ? Always like new (relevant) threads there.
