Two months ago the press were banging on like SARS was the end of the world. Now it's disappeared. Is it David Beckham's fault?

No. They (finally) realised that it was not the end of the world. In fact you have more chance of winning the lottery, being murdered, or dying through falling down a flight of stairs this year, than you have of catching the "death to the world as we know it" SARS virus. Meanwhile millions die annually through malaria, malnutrition, sexual diseases (inc. AIDS) etc... guess they're not worth reporting
Nope it the goverment and medias fault that they consantly panic the populace then say soothing words like "it's all right, we'll look after you...." when in all reality there nothing to panic about in the first place....SARS was no more than a virulent mutation of the cold....admittedly nasty if you caught it but nothing to get overly worked up about......how many people die on the Uk's roads each year? many many more than are killed by SARS but any outcry to stop transport? NO, of course not. The Tabloids are patiently waiting (cause of course any real journalism is way beyond them) for the next scare story be it eggs, BSE, or flesh eating bugs you can be assured they will hype it out of all proportions just to try to sell a few more scandal sheets.
ps. If you are one of the few cases in 60 million people in the UK who actually contract SARS you still have a 90% chance of recovery as the death rate is apparently 1 in 10. Talk about a story out of nothing......
