Whever I try to download something from the internet (such as the BASIC programs kindly recommended by folks in a post below) the download seem to work but I'm then left with a blank screen whch says DOWNLOADS at the top left-hand corner and nothing else. There is no sign of the program in my program list or in the ADD/REMOVE list. What am I doing wrong?

anything you download won't be in your programs list or add/remove until you install it!

Find the file you've downloaded and double click it to start the install.
I have just done a trial on the first on the list. It has downloaded OK for me.
It appears that you are downloading it ok but then not installing it, that is why it isnt in your programmes list, when it has finished downloading click on the icon to install it.
Depending on the version of Windows you have the file may be in the folder called "Downloads".

Thanks, folks, but I am not offered the chance to install what I have downloaded. As I said, I get only a blank screen with 'Downloads' in the corner. If I cancel that I go back to the original window that offers me the chance to download. Sorry to be a bore but I am obviously missing something obvious.
Sorry if you already know this. Click Start (bottom left corner) then Documents then Downloads.
See if it's there.

Thanks. I was getting to DOWNLOADS in a different way. But now I have found BASIC - downloaded 4 times! All well now. Thanks, all.
