Radio 4 Extra, never! We're talking The Home Service here. :-)
and on TV (in black and white) Quatermass and the Pit.
I loved that. We couldn't afford a TV so I went to my mother-in-law's specifically to watch Quatermass every week.
Who said nostalgia aint what it used to be? ;)
The first TV show I saw was in 1955 ish. I think it was called The Three Rascals.
What's wrong with 4 Extra? I really like some of those old programmes and since there is no more Home Service it's the best there is for the old stuff. The Navy Lark, Round the Horne, et al they all take me back to Sunday lunch times when I was young and daft (old and daft nowadays)
I first caught the repeats on Radio 7.

Fear not, nungate. Sandy is just being a purist ;)
Don't you need a new fangled radio to get 4 Extra?
I remember on a Sunday night my sister would tune the wireless to Radio Luxenburg to listen to the top 20. In Belfast the reception was terrible.
Family Favourites on a Sunday afternoon was excellent....................my mum used to sing along.
nothing wrong with R4 Extra. I listen to it regularly. Just that some of the output is well past its sell-by date.
Sandy - my dad would spend ages trying to tune the stations in. Mother would shout at him - 'oh, for goodness sake, stop oscillating'. It sounded like someone standing on a cat's tail :)
We don't have digital radio service here so I listen via my sky box. It used to be Radio 7 but they changed the station name. Still a lot of good stuff on there. Just wondering is Radio Luxemburg still going? All that radio interference I had to keep on retuning the radio. Were the Ovalteenies on Radio Luxemburg?
when I were a lad we could just about get radio Luxembourg in the evening. I spent some time listening with radio under the blankets to AFN. Sad, eh.
You think that was sad? I used to listen to Radio Moscow.
Sandy

I could just about understand AFN. What was Moscow transmitting?
The only programme I remember was one with an announcer with a fake American accent reading and answering letters from people in the USA.
This would have been in the early 60s.
I wouldn't have listened to anything that political, even if I could have received it.
I used to listen to Luxemburg but it used to drive me round the bend the way it used to fade, usually just when a track you were waiting for came on. Transferred my allegiance to Caroline when it came on the air in 1964
Anybody remember `Just William`? I used to listen to Radio Luxembourg on an old wooden wireless living in a house in a oasis in Libya, a few miles outside Tripoli. I had to have my ear glued to the set as the sound came and went to listen. Happy memories!
Ignorance is bliss - oooh we're back to Miss Haye again (Gladys Haye and Harold Berens, can't remember the third person.
OH it's Saturday -Jack Jackson
